Narrative-BLIMPIE THE BEGINNING
The goals for this assignment were to produce a podcast that tells a story from the student’s specified year. The assignment starts out with a script and ends with a podcast including one or more voices, sound effects, and a musical soundtrack. The story I chose to tell is about the opening day of the very first BLIMPIE in New Jersey. My story is fictional but the actual date is the opening day. I clearly explain who, what, when, where, and why in this story. The who are the three founders of BLIMPIE. The what is story itself, which is whether or not their sandwich shop will be successful. The when and where is April 4, 1964 in Hoboken, New Jersey. And the why is that this sandwich shop started the sandwich shop food chain. Before BLIMPIE there were only mom and pop sandwich shops and BLIMPIE was the first to expand and make a chain of shops. And that was pretty much it.
The narrative script was pretty easy to write once I figured out which way to play it from. From the beginning, I had a good idea on what to write, and ultimately how to do the podcast. I chose to write about the opening day of the very first BLIMPIE in Hoboken, New Jersey. The plot will be whether or not the business is going to be a success. The three characters are the original founders of BLIMPIE. The way the podcast will be told, was an interesting concept that I have never come across. The method on which the podcast would be told is radio play. When we were first told we had to do a podcast, I was like oh crap but I am looking forward to doing it. I also believe people will like my podcast because it is not an everyday topic, and not very many people know the story.
One of the characters will be uncertain about the prices, and the other two will be nervous about the opening day in general. The story starts off with the characters getting ready a couple of hours before the opening of the shop. The drama begins right away with one of the characters showing up late, and it just goes from there. In the end, the shop is a success, as you probably already know but the name is changed from “Blimpie Base” to just “BLIMPIE.”
For the research aspect of this was difficult at times and also easy at other times. Though, I only used one resource because no other resource was sufficient in my eyes.
In the end, this was a fun paper to write.
